Anna Twardosz in everyday life

Anna Twardosz is a young 20-years old ski jumper. It is getting louder and louder about her. Since the last season she has been scoring points in the World Cup and she has a big chance to participate in the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Where does the interest in this sport come from?
Anna Twardosz comes from a very sporty family. She has two sisters and three brothers and almost all of them do some sports: skiing, soccer and volleyball. This is how her interest in ski jumping started – from watching her brother. Her brother, encouraged by a friend, started ski jumping when Anna was nine years old. She went with their dad to his trainings and she really liked what her brother and the other athletes were doing on the hill. Just a few months later she felt that she wanted to follow in their footsteps too. This scared her mom, especially because she was preparing for her First Holy Communion at that time. They agreed that she could start regular trainings only after the Communion. And so began this adventure, which continues to this day. The family is still a huge support for Anna Twardosz. They stick together in the family, they support each other. Anna still lives with her parents and is always happy to come back home.

How much does this sport cost?
Ski jumping is a big effort, both physically and financially. Every day Anna has to do a lot of exercises. Sometimes it’s just training at the gym (cardio, running, stretching, abdominals, stabilization) but often before the gym she goes to the ski jumping hill and there she practices jumping. A week’s physical activity consumes her about thirty hours. The diet and keeping the weight off is also a challenge for the body.
Playing such a sport also carries a financial burden. The equipment is given to the staff, but the rest of the costs associated with training remain with the player. In Anna’s case, the biggest item in the budget is fuel, because just travelling to Szczyrk is 75 km one way.

What does a sponsor bring to a jumper’s life?
As Anna says, it’s hard to persevere in sports if you don’t have a sponsor. Sooner or later you get to the point when your own money and your parents’ money are no longer enough to cover the costs of training. That is why signing a sponsorship agreement with Real Logistics, a logistics company from Wroclaw, allowed her to free her head from worry. She can relieve her parents, with whom she still lives, continue her education at the Katowice University of Physical Education, and invest in a better diet. She also does not have to borrow money, which is a common practice for beginning athletes.

Does such sport allow for a private life?
Anna Twardosz is studying on an individual course, so she is able to combine her studies with training. And of course with the trips, which she has more and more as a member of the national team. In this sport the training season lasts from spring until October, and then after a break of less than a month she starts competing. In such a mode it is difficult to find time for other passions. That is why for Ania the synonym of rest is simply lying on the bed and watching a movie. Which one? Preferably a fantasy movie, like Harry Potter or Teen Wolf.

Fortunately, going to the competitions and being separated from her family is not very difficult for her. As she says, she is keen on both travelling and jumping. She likes to meet new people and places. She also appreciates the companionship of other jumpers, with whom she spends time during the trips. They like to play cards together (especially Remik) or go out to the city center. Of the places she has visited so far, Sapporo has been her favorite. Although it is a big city, it is very clean and atmospheric, and the people are very nice.

On the list of cities that Anna Twardosz will visit soon is Wroclaw. Real Logistics, one of the oldest logistics companies on the Polish market, is located there and has decided to sponsor Anna. To the everyday emotions, which are the inseparable part of work in logistics industry, new ones will be added – sport ones. The whole crew of the company is already getting ready to cheer on their ski jumper!
