In 2018, we could see another increase in container reloading in Polish ports. This trend has been developing for several years. In 2018 there was 17% increase, with the transhipment of over 200,000 TEU. The favourite wad Gdansk and Gdynia was the next.
Below thera is a summary of the quantity of containers handled for 2018 (in thousand TEU):
Gdansk: 1948,974
Gdynia: 803.871
Szczecin: 81,451
Focusing on the largest DCT terminal in Poland, in the second half of the year there was a slowdown in the dynamics of growth compared to the previous year. However, in the overall ranking DCT handled almost 2 million TEU – much more than in the previous year. The new service of the Ocean Alliance agreement from the Far East certainly had an impact on that good result.
Gdynia also has good results, although the second half of the year was weaker comparing it to 2017.
Szczecin includes a drop in container turnover year-on-year, but including the number of all types of transshipments it’s results has increased.
2019 promises to be better than the previous one. Considering the large investments in Gdynia, where the modernization of the port worth PLN 1.25 billion is in progress and the extension of the Oliwa wharf in Gdansk, we can expect another record.
