Troublesome transport after Brexit

Although the European Union countries have been preparing for Brexit for several years, it has not been possible to avoid confusion and unpleasantness in the transport implementation after the UK left it.

The UK’s exit from the European Union led to chaos in international shipping. The main source of problems turned out to be imprecise customs clearance regulations. As a result, there were serious stoppages at the borders, and hence the under-supply of wholesalers and shops, along with great disturbance of both the transport environment and the British society itself. This was compounded by the difficult situation of the Covid-19 pandemic and new strains of the virus. Pictures of trucks stuck at the borders for many days went around the world. Road carriers were particularly affected, a great part of which are Polish companies. Many, especially small carriers, discouraged by the difficult situation, temporarily suspended their offer of transport to and from Great Britain.

Only companies that, apart from organizing the transport themselves, are ready to take on all documentation related to customs clearance, also in the field of T1, have an advantage in this situation. Such a package of services: road transport plus a customs agency gives importers and exporters the greatest sense of security. And sense of security is now the most important expectation of companies for which trade with Great Britain often determines their survival. The Covid-19 pandemic has severely damaged the condition of many Polish manufacturing companies and the lack of access to the British market could be the proverbial nail in the coffin.

How long will this situation last? We will see! It is said that at least the entire first quarter of this year will look like this. We are glad that our customs agency has coped with this challenge and has managed to develop procedures to deal with the new reality to such an extent that even English entities use it. All of us need to hope that the situation will normalize quickly and the commodity exchange with Great Britain will return to the pre-Brexit state.
